What it means
Registering your address at the Bürgeramt — mandatory within two weeks of moving in, and the key that unlocks almost everything else: tax ID, bank account, residence matters. Bring your passport and the landlord’s confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). Registering late is an Ordnungswidrigkeit that can be fined.
