What it means

An impartial legal officer who notarises important transactions: buying property, founding a GmbH, marriage contracts and some powers of attorney are only valid in notarial form. The notary is neutral, not your advocate, and fees are fixed by law, so they are the same everywhere. Read the draft documents before the appointment and ask questions — the notary must explain them.
